Keystone Trail Connectivity Project Posted on June 05, 2024 | Last Updated on June 05, 2024

With a formal vote during the 12/7/2023 public meeting, the Town of Essex Economic Development Commission is in full support of the effort to create plans for developing a multi-use trail connection between the Town's Center and Essex Experience area to active outdoor recreation areas at the Saxon Hill Park. The EDC also supports the idea of a bridge over VT 289 creating a multi-use trail connection between the parts of Essex segmented by 289 and providing opportunities to connect with Bike/Walk trails in Essex Junction.

There are several areas of opportunity for the Town of Essex which are included in the Vermont Outdoor Recreation Economic Collaborative.

  • Grow outdoor recreation-related businesses. (such as outdoor shops, retailers, lodges, tour operators, guides, restaurants)
  • Increase participation in outdoor recreation activities among all demographics. (such as reducing barriers and expanding opportunities for accessing outdoor spaces)
  • Strengthen the quality and extent of outdoor recreation resources (such as trail systems, recreation facilities and water access facilities.

These align with both our Economic Development Commission goals in the 2024 town plan and would support both existing and potential new businesses. This is an opportunity to bring people to Essex, expand accessible options for Outdoor Recreation in our community for both residents and non-residents.

Memo presented at 12/18/2023 Essex Selectboard meeting by Economic Development Commission
